Howard Brook Curry, 74, of Salinas, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Stanford Medical Center. Howard was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Bath Township, Ill. He was a retired upholster who owned/operated Howard's Upholstery for 30 years. Howard was the "World's Greatest Barbecuer." He lived in Salinas for 53 years and served in the Korean War. His daughter, Karen Scurrah, in November 2004, two grandchildren, Breanna Scurrah in 1995 and Howard Mitchell in 2003, preceded his in death.

Memberships: Sheriff's Posse for more than 30 years; VFW Post No. 7895; the Moose Lodge in Salinas for more than 30 years; volunteer at the Food Bank for Monterey County. Howard enjoyed restoring automobiles, racing cars, boating and anything that involved his family.

Survivors: wife, Emma L. Curry of the family home; daughters, Elizabeth Curry of Lockwood, CA, Jo Ann Etchison of Prunedale, Patricia Mitchell of Salinas, Robin Lindquist of Salinas, Carolyn Coffee of Washington, Terry Paine of Salinas; brothers, Theodore "Oakie" Jipers of Los Angeles, Jess Curry of Roseville, Ill., Tom Curry of Peoria, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Michael Curry of San Francisco, Brooke Roberts of Tahoe, CA, Leeandra Archdeacon of Hollister, Beau Roberts of Redding, CA, Samantha and T.J. Etchison, both of Prunedale, Steven and Anthony Scurrah, both of Sacramento, Karter Lindquist and Haden Mitchell, both of Salinas.

  • Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13 at Healey Mortuary.
  • Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 580 Larkin St., Salinas.
  • Burial: will follow service at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Salinas.
  • Arrangements: Healey Mortuary, 405 North Sanborn Road, Salinas.
